Brussels, KBR 2100: A Hitherto Unexplored Medieval Latin Commentary on the Metamorphoses1

The publication of volume 12 the Catalogus translationum et commentariorum has opened up a vast field new manuscript material dealing with medieval commentary tradition on Ovid’s Metamorphoses. Among important French commentaries briefly discussed therein is Brussels, KBR 2100. was produced in northern France mid-thirteenth century and to date received little detailed scholarly attention. In this article, I discuss varied approaches adopted by commentator explicating text. contains some common Arnulf Orléans Vulgate Commentary. But it also adopts several quite unique glossing text, including fondness for outlining rhetorical flourishes interpreting text from very Christian perspective.
